….psychology study continues focusing on each condition’s signs/symptoms, psychological/psychiatric treatments, and complementary/alternative approaches of the following:
Anxiety disorder, generalized (GAD)
Drug addiction
Alcohol addiction
Panic disorder
Bipoloar disorder
Depression (major depression and dysthymia)
Schizophrenia
Alzheimer’s Disease
Today’s studies of Psychological conditions began with a review of Alcohol Addiction and led into Alzheimer’s Disease, bringing forth memories of my Grandfather, whom I only knew as a little girl…spending time in a nursing home with him as a 6′6″ grown man with the mind of a child, wearing diapers and learning to hold and squeeze a ball. Interesting and mysterious disease for sure. Next moving into bipolar disorder…funny enough - the company boss I used to work for (when I started the adult business) swore I was bipolar!
My family arrives in town in a couple days and will be staying for 10. Local adventures will include boat riding, exploring the marinelife center, the wildlife sanctuary, possibly going on a lion country safari, walking up into the lighthouse, canoeing the loxahatchee river …and — we are considering heading to the everglades to go for our first airboat ride.
10 days after family leaves, we are leaving here — for 10 days, me & matt traveling with mary jane to southwestern costa rica to stay with friends living in the jungle of dominical. we have plans to spend time in the local waterfalls and surfing the pacific ocean. our first experience sleeping under a bug net!
I love my juicer…today’s juice concoction: celery, ginger, green chard and apple. It’s OK. I’ve only juiced a few times and thank goodness each way is a little tastier. I want to understand which veggies/fruits mix together for the best tastes!
My diet has really evolved over the past couple years since starting yoga training April 2006. I’ve had the fortune of having my room mate throughout most of yoga training, being a registered dietician. As well personal health experimentation has led me to an Ayurvedic doctor w ho helped me understand more about my personal constitution and what is best for my system. From there, I’ve connected with a Naturpathic Doctor & another massage therapist who are moving deeper into bodily exploration based on the body as a whole - in relationship to intake and balancing.
In layman’s terms, I am working on releasing my childhood eating patterns and habits of high refined sugar and yeast intake. Letting go of yeast has been much easier than sugar…but I continue to focus on a 70% alkaline diet with only 30% acidity. Basically more beans, greens, nuts and seeds. Preferring 14 days of morning sprinkled pumpkin & flax seed to the next 14 days of sesame and sunflower seeds.
Mother Nature is calling me into the sunshine again…so awesome I can spend my time inside and out, NAKED!
So…ham, I am becoming more and more involved in meditation - deeply enjoying breathing, the mental imagery - the awareness & stillness in the body and mind. This morning my yoga practice went a little something like this:
My Personal Ritual w/ Breathing Technique Nadi Sodhana, asana focusing on the tailbone/sacrum including: cakravakasana, bhujangasana adaptation 2 x each, supta baddha konasana, straight leg raise & cross legged-hip stretch, dvipada pitham, urdhva prasarita padasana, jathara parvritti + leg raises, apanasana and a short savasana.
Pranayama throughout practice began with extending exhalation during forward bending (Langhana, “light” as in weight - grounding, calming, reducing) moving into extending inhalataion while backward bending (Brahmana “expand” - to increase vitality and build energy in the body) and seated pranayama between savasana and meditation was a ratio breat increasing inhalataion & exhalation from in4.ex6 - in6/ex8 8 - in8/ex10 - in10/ex12. Next I moved into 7 flowing meditations focusing on the cakras and subtle energies surrounding communication.
Summary: I am trying to develop a ‘relationship’ with my hip. This may sound unusual to some of you, however — my right hip is unbalanced. More specifically, my right SI joint has been chronically contracted related to a tailbone injury at some point in life.
The hip joint, muscles and hip flexors along with the pelvic bone and lower back/sacrum are quite an intricate area in the body, which I am yearning to explore and relax deeper and deeper.
Naked and heading out to the pool to soak up Mother Nature’s vitamin D and work on relaxing my hips!
